Channa Mereya is a beautiful song. I can sing praise of finely chosen words of each line.
This story of unrequited love has got mixed responses from people. Some sections of the people were able to totally related to it. The others found it to not really have a worthy storyline.
Leave the story, this song itself had so many things to convey.
“Mere zikr ka, zubaan pe swaad rakhna”
“Andhera tera maine le liye, mera ujla sitaara tere naam kiya.”
“Kitni dafa subah ko meri, tere aangan mein baithe maine shaam kiya.”
“Mann ki maaya rakh ke tere takiye tale..”
I might have heard this song a ten more times to get the lines in place and totally have it byhearted.
Well, it’s such elegant beauty that I wanted a blog post written on it. I wouldn’t try to translate it because I believe it’ll lose its essence.
Just like the character in the movie said, the songs that you sing needs to have that pain in you to be felt. The translation is something similar, you wouldn’t understand unless you have felt it yourself.
It is more like, for the sake of someone that you loved, you are ready to give everything that you own in this world, to see that person happy. And you leave with no regrets because you know that the love of you is happy somewhere in its own world.
Which makes me to ask, “Have you done that for someone?”
